David Gilmour Black Strat / Stratocaster Replica USA specifications / luthier. I have an electrical background so this Black Strat is professionally built. This guitar is what you would call a copy of a copy, the Fender Custom Shop, Artist Series, David Gilmour Signature Stratocaster, (NOS) New Old Stock & built very carefully by me with a lot of tender loving care to remain faithfully true in specification to the original Black Stratocaster. It is to exact Fender specifications but I must state that it was not built by Fender, I reiterate that I have personally built this guitar originally as a 2020 Christmas present to myself, & it is assembled with brand new parts & components as follows. The neck is a vintage spec American maple, 7.25 Gilmour / Hendrix radius, modern C profile, with dual action truss rod & bone nut. Scale length is standard 25.5.21 vintage frets, 2mm.

The finish is gloss with the classic vintage tint. The fret edges & top surfaces are finished to a very high standard. I always say the neck is the most important part of the guitar & this is an excellent vintage spec Stratocaster neck. The body is a brand new black glossed American alder Stratocaster body, full size & thickness to Fender specifications, immaculate / no scratches or dings.

All mounting screws / holes were carefully hand drilled to correct depth & using soap as lubricant for the screws while tightening, this is a Fender Custom Shop trick to prevent screw or wood damage. This build went extremely well & I will be reluctantly parting with this guitar when it sells. The back plate & screws are included but left in the black molded case that I will be providing with this guitar as part of the sale.

The bridge is a Fender American Vintage reissue (wide USA string spacing 27/32 with a fat tone block & vintage bent steel saddles). The bridge mounting screws are PRS with the knife edge groove that the Fender screws do not have. I used these to improve tuning stability as the knife edges lock into the grooves in the six screws & are more expensive than the Fender counterpart for this reason. The pots are CTS, the capacitor is orange drop & the 5 way switch is top of the range spring loaded CRL (USA components as installed in all the Fender Custom Shop guitars). The wire is cloth covered vintage spec stranded.

See the photograph of the wiring / soldering for details, the circuit used is the same as the original Black Strat which has tone controls for the neck & middle pickups only. The bridge Seymour Duncan SSL5 has no tone pot connected.

The pickups are USA Fender Custom Shop Fat 50 in the neck slot & USA Fender Custom Shop 69 in the middle slot. With the classic slightly overwound & more powerful Seymour Duncan SSL5 in the bridge position. (for hitting the correct tone when you do your version of the Comfortably Numb Solo). The setup went well as the action is low across all strings, across the 7.25 radius of the board. I left some slight neck relief in the truss for better string vibration / guitar tone & feel.

Theres a 7.25 radius curve in the saddle bridge height to match the string height across the fretboard & the strings have the correct intonation at the 12th fret. The bone nut has been filed with Stew Mac professional light gauge string nut files set to a height of 0.018, on all strings at the first fret so dont worry, that has been taken care of, & as I say it plays every note effortlessly & beautifully with a pro feel from every aspect of the playability of this fine vintage 7.25 radius neck. However it will be surplus to requirements as I already have previously built myself another Black Strat with a American Professional two point floating trem which is my preferred Fender bridge which is why this one is for sale. It would be really nice to see this go to a Pink Floyd / Dave Gilmour fan who will play it every day & cherish it for life. Very High attention to detail / built with guidance & information taken from the book, The Black Strat, by Phil Taylor. I can offer this with confidence as the guitar will last a lifetime as I built it & tested it to a very high standard. This one is the same, & is immaculate.

All the pickups sound amazing in every switch position, the bridge floats beautifully & the tuners are rock solid stable, its ready for action. The picture of David Gilmour himself with his real Black Strat was added just so that you can see / compare the vintage tint, body shape / proportions / hardware are identical, only brand new & to the NOS specs & not the relic, this is brand new & like a mirror.
